01Origins

Homs, Syria

Halmstad, Sweden

A sound that carries Eastern maqams into modern R&B and Alternative Pop.

Basel Kousa is a singer, songwriter and producer based in Halmstad, Sweden. His music blends the Eastern maqams he was raised on with the pulse and detail of modern R&B and Alternative Pop — songs built to feel intimate and wide at the same time.

Originally from Homs, Syria, he began with classic guitar and Arabic scales. Over years of writing and producing, that foundation evolved into a distinctive sound of its own, shaped by deliberate basslines and atmospheric synthesizers that hold melodies still bending the way maqam does.

Sonic palette

  • 01Maqam & Arabic scalesModal melody learned by ear in Homs — quarter tones, ornament, and the tension maqam carries.
  • 02Classic guitarThe first instrument, and still the writing room: nylon strings under every early sketch.
  • 03BasslinesLow, deliberate movement that gives the modal lines a contemporary floor to sit on.
  • 04Atmospheric synthesizersWide pads, tape haze, and long tails that turn a room of notes into weather.
